چکیده

The chemical kinetics of n-heptane (n-C 7 H 16 ) – an important reference compound for real fuels – oxidation are well studied at stoichiometric and lean conditions. However, there is only limited information on the n-heptane chemical kinetics in fuel-rich combustion. In order to verify the accuracy of chemical kinetic models at these conditions, the oxidation of rich n-heptane mixtures has been investigated. Combustion of n-C 7 H 16 /O 2 /Ar mixtures at equivalence ratios, φ, of 2.0 and 3.0 behind reflected shock waves has been studied at temperatures ranging from 1066 to 1502 K and at pressures ranging from 1.4 to 6.2 atm. Reaction progress was monitored by recording pressure and absorption time-histories of ethylene (C 2 H 4 ) and n-heptane at a location 2 cm from the endwall of a 14-cm inner diameter shock tube. Ethylene and n-heptane absorption time-histories were measured, respectively, using absorption spectroscopy at 10.532 μm from a tunable CO 2 laser and at around 3.4 μm from a continuous wave distributed feedback interband cascade laser (ICL). The measured absorption time-histories were compared with modeled predictions from the Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL) detailed n-heptane reaction mechanism. To the best of our knowledge, current data are the first time-resolved n-heptane and ethylene concentration measurements conducted in a shock tube at these conditions. © 2017 The Combustion Institute. Auto-ignition of aromatic and aliphatic Diesel fuel components: High-pressure shock-tube experiments and kinetic modeling for toluene and n-heptane

The auto-ignition of toluene and n-heptane as model fuels for Diesel fuel components have been studied in a highpressure shock tube under engine-relevant conditions. Toluene/air and n-heptane/air mixtures as well as toluene/nheptane/air (10/90% and 40/60% by volume) have been investigated over a wide temperature range (700 – 1200 K), = 1.0 and 0.5 and 40 bar behind reflected shock waves. A kine...

The comprehensive modelling of n-heptane / iso-octane oxidation by a skeletal mechanism using the Chemistry Guided Reduction approach

We apply to the primary reference fuels n-heptane and iso-octane the chemistry-guided reduction (CGR) formalism for generating kinetic hydrocarbon oxidation models. The approach is based on chemical lumping and species removal with the necessity analysis method. We demonstrate that the lumping technique can be applied to the branched peroxy radical isomers formed by iso-octane oxidation with mi...

Development and application of a comprehensive soot model for 3D CFD reacting flow studies in a diesel engine

A three-dimensional reacting flow modeling approach is presented for diesel engine studies that can be used for predictions of trends in soot emissions for a wide range of operating conditions. The modeling framework employs skeletal chemistry for n-heptane for ignition and combustion, and links acetylene chemistry to the soot nucleation process. The soot model is based on integration and modif...

Revisit of Diesel Reference Fuel (n-Heptane) Mechanism Applied to Multidimensional Diesel Ignition and Combustion Simulations

ABSTRACT Two reduced n-heptane mechanisms, previously developed in 1998 (40 species and 165 reactions) and in 2000 (65 species and 273 reactions) respectively, were revisited and the mechanism improvement was pursued. In the newly revised version, the mechanism consists of 83 species and 445 reactions. The mechanism was validated against the auto-ignition delay times of n-heptane/air mixture me...
